LITURGICAL SUPPORT:
Choir – Lead the congregation in songs, Proper’s and psalms during the celebration of the Eucharist.
Greeter – Welcome the congregation to the celebration and hand out the Mass guides.
Lector / Commentator – Assist in the celebration of the Eucharist by proclaiming God’s word through the readings and intentions as well as sharing the announcements.
Sacristan – Arrive one hour prior to mass to open the doors and carry out the necessary tasks for preparation to celebrate the Eucharist.
Server - Assist the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist.
Usher – Assist the congregation with seating, distribute and collect the baskets for the offertory gift, assist with special collections, place bulletins at the entrances / exits, walk through the church after the service to organize pews.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION & ADULT FORMATION:
Teach or assist teachers with the various grades and tasks related to the religious education program.
Help others prepare for the various sacraments celebrated in our Church.
PARISH COMMITTEES:
Join the various parish committees to help carry out their missions: Parish Council, Stewardship, Building and Grounds, and Altar Environment.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Serve Meals at the Multicultural Center – Some of the volunteers make desserts to be taken to MCC, while others prepare and serve food and clean up the kitchen and dining room at the MCC located in Madison. This is an extremely and immediately rewarding opportunity. You will have the opportunity to positively affect the day of 60 to 70 people in several hours of work.
Meal Ministry – when there is a need, whether it is a health-related issue or the birth of a baby, the meal ministry provides a welcomed meal to those in need. The commitment is as small as providing one meal a year.
Take the Eucharist to the Homebound – Provide the opportunity for the homebound to receive the Holy Eucharist.
Prayer Chain – Receive a call to pray for specific needs of individuals/families and calling others in the group to do the same.
Give Rides to Mass – Provide transportation to those unable to make it to Church on their own.
Home Visits – offer your time to visit those less fortunate than yourself.
Community Clothes Closet – Come together with other local churches to donate your time to take in, sort, and display gently used clothing at the Mount Horeb Community Clothes Closet. Through coat drives (Jacket-In-The-Box), blanket drives, fund raisers (Love Offering), and school supply/backpack donations the center is able to provide help to all in need of assistance.
Mt. Horeb Food Pantry – Provide help to stock shelves and distribute food to those who come to the food pantry in need. This group coordinates monthly food drives through the Church and collects money for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for the less fortunate.
Funeral Dinners – Assist in the preparation and serving of meals as well as the set-up and clean-up associated with funeral meals.
ORGANIZATIONS TO JOIN:
CCW is an organization open to all women of the Catholic Faith. At the local level, CCW helps the parish and community in many ways: Monthly contributions of money and prayer offerings to support local charities and individuals of every denomination needing help to improve their lives; serving and providing meals and fellowship for functions such as funerals and weddings, providing Parish linen services, selling roses on Mother’s Day, collect baby items for the Women’s Care Center at Christmas, organize coffee/visit after mass, and decorating the church. Meetings are held the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM.
Knights of Columbus was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members, their families and the community. At the local level, K of C helps the parish and community in many ways: Selling food at the Brew Fest with proceeds benefitting the Special Olympics; Adopt-a-Highway cleanup, Parish grounds clean-up, Parish cemetery clean-up, free throw contest, essay contest, punt pass and kick competition, Tootsie Roll sales and community donations to benefit the MARC center, family supper, organize coffee/visit after mass, sponsor ice cream social at Ingleside, and support the Mt. Horeb Frolic (Norsk Run, parade organization, and general set-up)
Knights of Divine Mercy is an organization calling Catholic men to heroic virtue, to be strong husbands and fathers, and to be spiritual men of prayer. Meetings are 1st Friday of the month starting at 6:00 PM at St. Mary’s Parish and include a night of prayer, adoration, confession and a speaker. There is a Roman Social hour starting at 8:00 in ST. Mary’s school gym.
Squires of Divine Mercy is an opportunity for fathers to spend quality time with their sons in a virtue-focused and competitive environment. In addition to Catholic teaching from local priests, they play sports and share a snack. Meetings are Monday nights starting at 6:15 PM at St. Mary’s Parish.
Ladies of Divine Mercy is a spin-off of the Knights of Divine Mercy and offers Catholic women the opportunity to move toward a closer relationship with God and fellow Catholic women. Meetings are the second Friday of the month.
